Perl for Web Site Management · 12 September 2005, 07:46 by Admin

I wish I had this book back when I first started my web site- it would have saved me a lot of time and trouble.

Really, this is much more about Perl than it is about web sites. You might say that the author uses web site related tasks to teach Perl- I really would recommend this to someone getting in to Perl even if they have no interest in building a web site. Of course, if you are doing web site content, this is even more valuable.

The writing style is conversational and easy to read. Difficult concepts are covered extremely well- for example, this has one of the best introductions to Perl modules that I have read anywhere. It also has a good introduction to the CGI.pm module, which is one I avoided for years because of the complexity of its man page. If I had this to introduce me, I wouldn’t have let that intimidate me as it did.

All in all, very nicely done and highly recommended.
